Stephanie Thompson's Perfect First Weekend in Jacksonville FL for Buyers Who Are Thinking About Moving Here

You can read a hundred listings and still not know if a place feels like home.

That is why I tell my out of town buyers the same thing. Come for a weekend. Walk around. Eat something good. Pay attention to how your shoulders feel. I am Stephanie Thompson, and as a real estate advisor in Jacksonville FL, I have watched people decide in a single Saturday morning that this is where they belong.

Here is the weekend I plan for them.

Friday Night: Start on the Water

Skip the big plans. Check in, drop your bags, and head toward the St. Johns River.

Jacksonville is a river city first. The water shapes everything here, from the bridges to the sunsets to the way neighborhoods sit along the shoreline. A slow walk along the Riverwalk at dusk tells you more about Jacksonville, Florida than any brochure will.

Grab dinner nearby and keep it simple. You are just getting your bearings.

Saturday Morning: Riverside and Avondale

This is where I take almost everyone first.

If it is a Saturday, start at the Riverside Arts Market under the Fuller Warren Bridge. Local vendors, fresh produce, live music, and neighbors who actually know each other. It is one of my favorite ways to see everyday Jacksonville life. If you want more options, I wrote about the best farmers markets around town too.

Then wander over to Memorial Park along the river. Let the kids run. Let the dog sniff every tree. Then drift through the shops and restaurants on St. Johns Avenue in Avondale.

Notice the live oaks. Notice the porches. Notice whether you can picture your own morning coffee here.

Saturday Afternoon: The Beaches

Now point the car east.

Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Atlantic Beach each have their own personality. Walk the pier at Jacksonville Beach. Put your feet in the sand. Get tacos. Stay for the light.

This is also the moment to pay attention to the drive. Notice how long it takes and how it feels. I wrote a full post on Jacksonville traffic because honest expectations make for happier moves.

Sunday Morning: San Marco and the Neighborhood Loop

Start slow in San Marco Square. Fountain, lions, coffee, a bakery pastry. Then take a loop through the neighborhoods you have been curious about.

This is where my favorite neighborhoods come into play. I will drive you through the ones that fit your budget and your daily rhythm, and I will tell you what I love and what to think about before you commit.

Look at real streets, not just photos. See how far the grocery store is. See where the parks sit. See what your commute could look like.

Sunday Afternoon: One Honest Conversation

Before you head home, we sit down, ideally with a coffee in hand.

I ask what felt right. I ask what felt off. Then we talk about your price range, your timeline, and the next steps. If you want to see how I guide buyers from first call to closing, you can read how I work with buyers.

No pressure. No pushing. Just clarity.

Whether you are leaving a cold city, a crowded one, or one that no longer fits your life, a weekend here can change the whole question from "Could we live there?" to "Where exactly should we live?"

I am Stephanie Thompson with Local Roots Group at United Real Estate Gallery, and I would love to plan your first weekend in Jacksonville FL. If you are even a little curious, book a time with me and tell me what you want your life to feel like here. I will handle the rest.
